With all the commotion going on in the east coast after Hurricane Sandy’s destruction, one item that continues to be discussed: drinking water.  The mayor of New York confidently tweeted that the water was safe to drink. 

The media never took attention to the drinking water situation though, and probably should have.  While contamination wasn’t an issue this time, several factors could lead to a devastating problem at any moment.

Colleges and Universities in the United States and Canada have begun to take a stand against bottled water.  While each college has their own approach, the goal is the same; ban bottled water sales and use on campus.  Every movement has been met with both optimision and skepticism from students and administratives.  One of the largest hurdles to overcome has been the contracts schools have with large soft drink companies.  These soft drink companies give kickbacks to the schools from the sales generated on campus.

We all know that we need to conserve water and not to be wasteful, especially with this valuable resource.  Water can get expensive and it is easily something we can save money on.

One of the first avenues to start with would be to look at the water bill and see how much money you are spending every month.  That will give you a starting point and to hopefully start seeing savings after a few tweaks to your daily habits.
